When was the last time that all of Celtics strikers scored in their last games?, 3 of them scored tonight and Murphy scored on Sunday!!, What a problem Lenny has to pick the correct 2 for sunday. We couldn't buy a goal last season and so far the fighting for places has been a huge success.

A problem like this is barely a problem at all. I think it was Murphy who came out and said after the Killie game that the competition between strikers was making them all really hungry for goals.

Stoksie and Murphy in the middle and Sammy wide like he was last night, seemed to work brilliantly. Hail Hail

I disagree, There are plenty of players who desereve a chance out wide before Samaras. I though that he was lucky last night and still managed to miss some sitters. The one he got from Ledley he knew little or nothing about, the one he "chipped" the keeper was more luck than good judgement.
If we play with those three who are the other three in the middle. I don't know who is all fit but I really think there's enough available to deny Samaras getting a place. Feck, I'd start McCourt before him, and you know what I think about starting McCourt.

It's a good problem to have.
We have four strikers to choose from who all seem capable of getting goals.
Hooper looks like a top class finisher.
Murphy does a lot of work and is deadly from the spot.
On his day Sammy is unplayable and Stokes will score for fun.
All big clubs need four good forwards.

When was Samaras' day I must have missed that.
I'd keep him as a cheap option substitute, as you say we need at least 4 strikers. He'd be the fifth option though. I'd play maloney as a forward ahead of him, we have strength in the midfield to allow us to do that.
I don't think much of Maloney as a goal getter btw.

firstly, can i once again state that i think he would be a great player for another team in another league and we could still get good money for him BUT,since he spawned a hat-trick and he is receiving some plaudits ,it seems like a fair time to point out a couple of reasons he infuriates me ) on three/four occasions last night CELTIC had the ball on the edge of and INSIDE the right of ICT penalty box , players looking up for a pass , and where is the bold one? .....on the left TOUCHLINE ! the feckin touchline ( he did it the first half too . then he stands with his hands behind his head as if someone has a gun in his back .he is getting a little better but why does he even think about doing anything else other than RUN when he has half the park in front of him !? there's more but my stomach is tightening up thinkin about it . nice to see two strikers playing "together" for a change, and with a "first touch" too .

I think you are being very harsh on Sammy mate. Fair enough that you don't rate him but credit where credit is due. The guy scored three goals last night and also set up another. He may have been slightly lucky with his second but he took his first and third goals brilliantly. A on form Samaras is a good squad player to have.

I just think that most of the time he is a doo. He slows play up, passes the ball backwards, runs across the park to no useful purpose, misses other people's runs, or just falls on his arse. To suggest that we should have our two main strikers on and play him wide is insanity to me. That's playing a 4-3-3, which presumably becomes a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1 when defending. When has Samaras ever chased back, or made a decent tackle. When he loses the ball he runs his hands through his hair and stares skyward. He does not chase back, or try to get the ball back. Contrast that to Stokes for example whose first reaction to losing the ball is fighting to get it back. To play Samaras the way people are suggesting is madness to me. He gives us little in attack and is a waste of a shirt defensively.

He may have been slightly lucky with his second but he took his first and third goals brilliantly. Wasn't it his first one he got lucky with? Don't think he knew anything about it when the shot came into the box. It just kinda smacked his shin and went into the top corner. Second goal he took well by delicately chipping the keeper however it took forever and a day to trickle into the net. Did well on the third goal after losing possession. Just wrapped his foot around it when it luckily rolled back into his path and he got just enough on it to put it right in the corner and out of the keepers reach.

what excites me is that in hooper and stokes we have two strikers that just look goal hungary, say what you will about we skippys attitude but all he wanted to do is get goals same as monster munch did across at mordor, in my book thats the trate all strikers should have let others set them up and let the goal thirsty strikers smash them away.might have lost the point of this thread there for a moment, sorry am just excited when i see strikers like that in the hoops. under mogga those trates were non existent.

I felt he got lucky with the second goal mate. He tried to chip the rgk and the df should have cleared it. I thought he adjusted his body well to volley in the first goal. I may be giving him too much credit though:)

It's just the idea of playing Hooper and Stokes, with Samaras wide which does my head in. For the reasons I mentioned some moments ago.

Samaras was played out wide last night because we had no other wingers fit. He scored a hattrick from a midfield position and we dont have any other midfielders who can do that, 2 weeks ago he could have scored a hattrick against Hearts if his finishing was sorted, he gets into great positions but his finishing is woeful at times.

See I don't think it's just his finishing, I think it's his basic decision making. He seems to go for the negative option and is often unaware of what's going on around him, or doesn't care. He is one of those players who, to me, is better when he doesn't have a lot of thinking time. His third goal last night was actually OK. He lost the ball but then when it broke free he reacted quickly. When he is given time to think he makes it too complicated or just passes back into the midfield. If he is not doing that he is running into 3 defenders, or square across the park. You rarely see a telling ball from him, and like I said earlier he gives nothing at all defensively.
He is a squad player, similar to McCourt. He may come on if we are ahead and want to rest football players, or need to try something different. However I'm not sure when a headless Greek chicken who runs like a lassie would be an alternative I would want to go for.

I agree with nearly everything Gerry says and I wouldn't start Samaras either. He has talent and pace, but seems to have little in the way of brains to go with them and takes the wrong option far too often.

If neither of them then who isn't playing in the midfield. Brown, Ledley, Juarez, Kayal, Maloney, Forrest. Remember you have to leave 3 of them out to get Samaras on. He is a sub.

Who said they want to start him?, at the moment our wingers are injured and Samaras is an option.we have Murphy, Stokes and Hooper as the strikers now.Play Samaras deeper if needed. He doesn't need to be played out on the wing.

I took that to mean from the start. If not then how can you predict how a game will go and what substitutions need made. Whether it be through injury or wanting to change tactics.

The two wide attackers with the one through the middle seems to be very effective. Isn't this our biggest win since we romped St Mirren 7-0?

I couldn't make the game last night for obvious reasons but my son and his pals were there and said Sammi got a standing ovation from everyone in the ground for his performance last night, 3 goals, an assist and other chances, that will do for me.

See I don't think.......... See I think if Sammy had scored all six last night some folk would still want him dropped........... It would depend on how he played, who he was playing against and how he got the goals. Having just seen highlights it looked to me that he had more opportunities to score. I also think, as stated that he carried luck with 2 of the goals he did manage to score. The first he knew little about and the second he tried his best to make a mess of. It's all about opinions though. I think there is a better team of 11 players with Samaras on the bench. I think we have better striking options and better midfield options. Particularly when you consider that defensively he gives nothing to the team. It's obvious to me that Neil Lennon intends playing Samaras. I just don't think it makes any sense to do it alongside Hooper and Stokes as has been suggested. It just doesn't work as a balanced side for me. To those who weant to do that, and assuming they are playing a back 4, who are the other three in the middle. You can't just say play Samaras out wide along with the two main strikers, you also have to consider how that effects the other positions. Who plays in them and what the formation is. I say again, Maloney, Ledley, Juarez, Kayal, Brown, Forrest, McCourt. Which 3 play and which three don't if Samaras is playing.
