To those who think the league cup means nothing to CELTIC should take a wee peek at how good we are at it.
League cup been going for 63 yrs,CELTIC have been winners 14 times
between 65 and 78 we reached every final,14 finals and won just 6
The league cup is the hardest cup for us to win,our record is a blight on our history,we have an awfull record in it.I want us to win this cup EVERY season, lets start to put this record str8.

I'm sorry mate, I don't place a great deal of importance as you, naturally I'd like to win it as I want us to win every game, but with there being no Euro place with it, the relevance of this competition escapes me, in fact I'd go so far as to say this competition should go the same way as the Glasgow Cup and open only to reserve teams as they have no league to play for. That being said I'll be more than happy to hump ICT tomorrow but still doesn't alter the fact that the competition is finished as a major trophy.

By your theory then the scottish cup means nothing, after all we dont finish outside the top two, therefor europe guaranteed, the point is that its part of the treble and we are crap at winning the treble

I want to win every cup that Celtic competes for. I don't care if it's the Empire Exhibition Trophy or the C.I.S. Cup I think we should try to win them all.

I want to win everything we are in as well, I just don't get that bothered about the CIS Cup.
Maybe that's why our record is so poor in it. Previous managers have felt the same way. It is traditionally one we use to rest players, give others a game etc.

The League Cup Competition, no matter what it is called, has lost its importance to the fans within football. I doubt there will be full houses at any of the games played tonight or tomorrow. As long as we win the league then this cup will always be an afterthought. It only comes into play if we win it, the league and are going for the treble with the Scottish Cup.

You only have to look at the price reductions to see that clubs find it difficult to attract fans to this competition.

It's not like we're "bothered" by European matches so why not try to win the thing?

I'm not too fussed about the league cup, the Scottish cup or the Europa league tbh.
The only two comps that matter to me are the cl and the spl.

Our priority is the SPL, of course, and we want to see this team of virtual strangers gel into a championship winning side.
Playing his ideal first eleven, or as close to it as possible, in every game from now on, including League Cup games, will surely help them develop an understanding of each others play which in turn will help them become that strong team unit we're looking for?

It is traditionally one we use to rest players, give others a game etc. Exactly as I was going to post until I read your post Jim. It is always nice to win any cup but clearly no Celtic manager in the past has put much emphasis on Celtic winning the league cup as it means nothing now apart from being part of the treble. I would take the double every year. That is the league and Champions League by the way.

I agree with King Kong, the main reason we should want to win it,is to deprive that mob anything. If we dont win it,they most probably will.Give no surname nothing in his last year, and GIRU the hun media into the bargain.

According to Neil Lennon it's important to him...
From the 'fishal site...
manager: cup progress is important
Mark Henderson THE Co-operative Insurance Cup holds special memories for Neil Lennon. It was the first trophy he lifted as a Celtic player and the first one he won as captain of the side.
On Wednesday evening, the Hoops will host Inverness Caley Thistle in the third-round of the competition. And the Irishman is focused on getting a positive result and progressing to the latter stages of the tournament.
“It’s a competition that has been good to me,” said the Celtic manager. “It was my first trophy as a Celtic player and my first trophy as a Celtic captain.
“Of course, we are out of Europe now so it’s become more prominent in our thoughts. It’s a competition we want to progress in and one we would like to win.
“I am just pleased it’s a home tie,” he added. “You always want a home tie early in the cup stages and it’s a competition that I would like to progress in and I think it’s important for our season that we do that.”
However, Lennon will certainly not be underestimating the threat of the Highlanders. He has first-hand knowledge of how dangerous they can be in cup competition and will be relaying that message to his players.
“I think Inverness will come and have a go. Obviously they have history with us having a great result here 10 years ago. Then in 2003 they turned us over up there as well.
“We just have to have the right approach and attitude, and do all the basics of the game well and hopefully the quality we have will take over eventually.
“We have to try and be patient and wear teams down and play at a tempo that they find difficult.”
With some players carrying knocks from the weekend win over Kilmarnock, there may be some changes to the starting XI. But it will still be a strong Celtic team that takes to the field.
“Without giving too much away there are a few carrying bumps and bruises and we have got a squad with a few players needing some game time as well,” he said. “But that is not taking Inverness lightly at all because those who are coming in are quality players and it will be a strong team that we field tomorrow night.
“The players are in a good frame of mind at the minute and the majority of them are fit and well and are looking forward to playing.”

It's a wee diddy cup till we get knocked out and the papers go "Supercallygoballistic", I want no more off those feckin headlines, I want us going out to win every trophy we play in, just watch the reaction off our fans if we should get beat, that tells you everything, feck they were going ballistic last season when the mini huns knocked us out off the Diddy cup. Also the most sensible thing I have seen KK posting, we should try and win it, if we don't they will. Hail Hail

important for lennon as a defeat will harm him badly, he cant afford a disaster like the last time ict beat us. but i reckon his team will be as expected full of regulars and get the result.
