“Contrary to negative reports about what happened between me and Bolton, God has destined me to join a team that would put smiles on my face and that of my fans,” said Shittu. Sounds like a bit of a loony.

The 18-year-old will spend a fortnight training with the club and has inevitably been compared to former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke. Winchester has already picked up a full international cap and has attracted interest from Ajax and a number of Premiership clubs. Russel Latapy, manager of Trinidad and Tobago told The Sun: “Shahdon is a fantastic young talent, a real little star. Our fans love him because he’s one of the brightest young stars our country has produced. “With the right guidance, the right opportunity and the right club he can go a long way. “You need luck in football and it depends what Lennon wants him to do but he’s got the ability, no doubt about it. “If I had to make a comparison I’d say Shahdon is like Dwight Yorke. “He’s got a lot of the same attributes. He runs at people, is super-strong and loves scoring goals. If he takes this chance and impresses, then he would be a fantastic player for Celtic.” It has to be said that other than Thomas Rogne there isn’t much evidence of many trialists being converted into signings in recent times. Former Rangers and Hibs midfielder Latapy however is confident that Winchester can make his mark. Latapy added: “He’s one of the kids who plays local to me and works with the national squad all the time. “”He’s powerful for a young man and has great composure on the ball. He’s not afraid to work hard and maybe he’s just a little bit shy. “But his confidence should soar if he gets the chance at Celtic. He’ll win a lot of games.” videocelts.com/2010/09/blogs/trinidad-striker-on-trial-a-celtic?

Wasn't Winchester on trial a few weeks ago?
As for Shittu although the guy has not played much club football he has been a ever present for Nigeria.
He played all three of their matches in South Africa and he also played at the African Cup of nations.
He is only 30 years old and he should have no problems in the spl.
I understand why the club have asked him to complete a trial but at the same time Shittu probably feels he has nothing to prove in terms of fitness.

I think the reason he got the games in the world cup is because the nigerians dont have a lot of decent centre half, Sodje and Yobo i think are the other 2. This league is not the stroll in the park everyone thinks it is, if he thinks that 8/9 games against the likes of Sierre leone or Mozambique guarantees him a starting berth in any team then i think he will have a long wait, why did Bolton not play him at all last season?

You are right about Nigeria lacking any other real defensive opitions mate.
As for Bolton they had a pretty established pairing with Knight and Cahill. I think its something we should be doing. Pick two first choice centre halfs and lets stick with them for the next five games.

its lookin promising about the wee trinidad bhoy... Neil Lennon plays down Danny Shittu signing prospects Shittu played in Nigeria's games at the World Cup in South Africa Celtic manager Neil Lennon has played down the possibility of signing Danny Shittu while confirming that Shahdon Winchester could join the Glasgow club. Lennon said that Trinidad and Tobago striker Winchester, 18, has impressed on trial with Celtic's youths. The 30-year-old Shittu is a free agent after being released by Bolton and has also been invited for a trial. "But we've 26 or 27 players as it is and we don't want to congest it too much any more," said Lennon. "It's a possibility that there might be an opportunity to bring Danny in and have a look at him and just assess how he is." Our scouts have had Shahdon Winchester watched and the reports have been good Celtic manager Neil Lennon But Shittu may think that someone who played for his country, Nigeria, at this summer's World Cup in South Africa should not require a trial to prove his quality. It may, however, be the player's fitness that Celtic want to test, Shittu having made only 12 appearances for Bolton after his £2m move from Watford in August 2008. He signed a three-year contract after the English Premier League club beat Rangers to his signature, but he did not feature at all for Bolton last season and was released before the transfer window closed. Winchester has been playing in his homeland with W Connection and has impressed the staff at Celtic Park. "We've had good reports about him and he's broken into the international team now," said Lennon. "Our scouts have had him watched and the reports have been good. "We've had an opportunity to bring him in for a week or so. "He's trained with the young lads down at Barrowfield today. The reports were good on him and he will come up and join us this week. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/8989984.stm?

He(Shittu) apparently is afraid of picking up any injuries while he doesn't have a club an therefore ruling out trials. He's covering his back which is fair enough, but must understand that we want to do the same
