Celtic could miss out on Danny Shittu – if the Nigerian star turns down the Parkhead club’s offer of a trial.
The out-of-contract former QPR and Watford defender has held talks with senior Hoops officials about a move to Scotland.
However, the Glasgow club want the injury-plagued player to train at Lennoxtown for a week to prove his fitness.
And the ex-Bolton man feels that, as an established internationalist, he doesn’t need to do that.
Shittu, 30, has interest from other clubs in the npower Championship – Leicester City are believed to be tracking him.
Middle East outfit Al-Ahli, managed by ex-Leeds boss David O’Leary, are also keen on landing him.
The big stopper, who hardly played for Owen Coyle’s side last season, was a target for Rangers a couple of years ago.
However, his move to Ibrox collapsed because of his excessive wage demands. Shittu, who was on international duty with his country this week, has revealed that his future will be sorted out later this week.
“Contrary to negative reports about what happened between me and Bolton, God has destined me to join a team that would put smiles on my face and that of my fans,” said Shittu.
“I have some offers in England and some top ones too in Europe and I am confident that within a week, I will duly announce my preferred club.
“The most important thing for me is to join a club that will make me happy and also give me playing time so that I will be able to enjoy football the way I used to.”

Apparently Shittu has turned down a chance of a trial to prove his fitness. No fitness trial, no contract. Settled. I'm on record as preferring Jay Demerit, more reliable plus he didn't spend all last season on the bench.
Hey, what do I know I am in total agreement with you PB but then I am totally biased.

sounds like an arrogant type, announcing his "preffered " choice this week. Probably some backwater club no doubt .Maybe someone could have checked his fitness levels by watching this weeks international games . Anyone know if he played?
