I was answering the questions to the all about you.... and got thinking, where have the fans favorites gone? My Da told me all about Jinky and Big Jock, and the Lions. I've told my daughter all about Tommy Burns, DiCanio, Pierre, Lubo, Cadete. Then about MoN Sutton BBJ BoBo and of course a certain Mr Larsson. I thought about the last 3/4 seasons then and thought we've not had a fans favorite for a while outside of Boruc. Don't get me wrong we've had some good players, Nakamura springs to mind immediately, Paddy McCourt, McGeady but have they been adored on a level that some of the players I've mentioned were. So do you think any of the current squad have what it takes to become a hero in the hoops, to become a true fans favorite for seasons to come. Do you think I'm being short sighted and we have had a few outside of Boruc , do you think we need a favourite. Or do u think I'm just talking nonsense. Dont get me wrong i don't care who is playing in the Hoops whether they are a world beater or an average SPL player, they have my support but my worry is that some fans seem to be more concerned with having whipping boys nowadays rather than a favorite.

I think big Majostorovic could become a hero, particularly if he puts the huns in their place next month, Forrest is also one, given time, who good star for the hoops for a few years.

i think young Forrest could become a favourite with the fans if he keeps progressing, and you are correct people do seem to prefer having a go rather than getting behind players and building their confidence

whilst not going to be a player that is going to light up a game with jinking run and finish, but for me barim kayal could fast become a fans favorite, and i have said this before i think lenny could become a legend all over again this time as celtic manager,

I agree Big Danny could become a hero, we've needed a big scary looking monster at the back for a while. Whoever Lennon decides to regularly play beside him should be made take a Mach 3 to their napper. I thought Hooiveld was a stick on to be a favourite when I saw his post match interviews and hope he can get a run in the team and back up his good talk with solid displays.

Every team has a fans favourite, some liked the Maestro, some liked Granty, chalk and cheese. We have a couple off candidates just now with the potential, Paddy, Young Forrest, Izzy, Big Dan, Biram, Juarez, Stoksie and wee Shaun the way he is playing all have the ability to become fans favourites, if they all do it we will have some team. Hail Hail

Generations have their own favourites and it's more difficult for people of a certain vintage to get them in a current squad. If you have seen Larsson, Dalglish, McNeill and the like play then it's difficult to accept a newer player as a favourite. Younger fans don't have that same baggage, as they may only have heard us speak about those players, or seen them on TV.
So you can only really ask who will be the favourites of the current players. For me, like others, Kayal is the stick out just now. However with a run I think Juarez could be up there. Indeed Izzy has been doing a pretty good job so far.
The future's bright ghuys.

If they win a few trophies and progress as we think they might then there will emerge a number of heroes and favourites.

Very hard too see heroes now. Simply because very few stay put for long enough.

apart from danny mcgrain not many center backs get this accolade but just maybe Izzy could head in that direction if he continues the way he has began, i only see him getting better, no one else at celtic comes close to hero or idol as i can see as they are not consistant those days maybe gone unless we find one from the unknown as we cant afford the main players who be in the hero status at celtic, as for big dan i dont think he is good enough for this, unless we get someone to take some responsibility of his massive shoulders.

Younger fans don't have that same baggage, as they may only have heard us speak about those players, or seen them on TV. I tend to agree with that. I think it is younger supporters who have favourites rather than older fans who grew up watching the likes of Dalglish, Paul McStay or even lately Henrik. Or in JungleJims case the starting XI from Celtics first ever fixture. I tend to just support the team these days and want them all to perform well for the club.

Agreed Sean but a fans favourite ignites the fans and the team. There are a few potentials there, as have been noted, Izzy, Juarez, big Danny and Kayal are potential. Not Maloney for me, his chances have been and gone, no disrespect to what he is doing now, but nowhere near enough for fave status and Stokes has to start banging them in big time, however time will tell. But the question highlights the need for a hero who has been missing since Henrik left, and heros are made not bought

<<<< That guy, right there or his midfield partner Kayal and also big Majstorovic have potential to be fan faves. It's a shame that Lenny seems to think when we're in for a fight he needs to turn to a British central midfield of Ledley and Broony, which results in Juarez and Kayal missing out. Can't forget Super Paddy neither.
