A wee game of What If here. Question is what if Paolo Di Canio had never left us in 1997? How would things have panned out? He left us in the summer of 1997 after becoming unhappy at the club due to the sacking of Tommy Burns and the way things were being run at the top after Jock Brown came in. Of course once he left we got Henrik in and the rest is history but what if Celtic had BOTH Di Canio and Larsson? Would we have still stopped the 10-in-a-row? Would Di Canio have stayed for a few more years to the point where we would have had Henrik, Lubo and Di Canio together? Imagine how good that would be!! At the time when Paolo left I was obviously gutted as he was a fans favourite and seemed to love the club and often talked fondly about how much he loved the club and the fans. Then I saw him go to Sheffield Wednesday and proceed to say the same sort of things about that club... then the same things were being spouted out at West Ham and then I even read some comments from him along those lines when he was at Charlton. It kind of gave me the impression he was just happy wherever he was and just liked to keep the fans on his side. Like a real man of the people attitude. Brilliantly talented player and eccentric nutcase, a real character. Always one of my great what if's when I think about what could have been if he linked up with Henke in the 97/98 team and further on. And now here's some Paolo moments in a Celtic shirt... ;D And of course....

Great vids,Paolo had Pierre and Jorge Cadette who were both great players to play beside, i dont know if Di Canio was as good a team player as lubo, Sutton or Hartson were?, it would have been great to find out though.I feel he got better when he left Celtic.

Thing is, if Paolo had stayed at the team 4/5 years to the time where Martin was in-charge, I think O'Neill would have really calmed him down and also got even more out of him on the field. Martin was just that good.

My views on Paulo tend to be different to most people's. yes he was a great football player, however i often thought that he wasn't a great team player. I felt that a lot of the time it was too much about him entertaining the crowd (which is great) and not enough about being part of a team. I thought Aiden was to a large extent the same. Paulo could have simplified his game on occasion and actually have been a better team player for it. He was a mercurial talent, there's no doubt about that but that wasn't always what we needed.
I think that comes directly from the blokes personality, he seems to be like that in real life. He is also of course a fascist and a total mentalist.

Much as I loved his creativity and emotion...Paolo di canio, you'll never get 9 in a row....... we were never really a team while he was at Celtic. I felt we were lazy, my memory is of players passing him the ball and sitting back until he had finished his run, its perhaps poor recall but that's how I felt.
