From Celticunderground.net:
Anyone perusing the sports pages of the Daily Record, Sun or any other Scottish newspaper this week could be forgiven for thinking they have been living in an alternative universe for the past few years. Prior to last night's bore-a-thon between Man Utd and Rangers, the aforementioned rags were full to the brim with platitudes to the man with no surname - "Sir Alex: Walter's the only boss I fear" - that sort of shit, and slavvering praise of the Huns' "impressive" away record, with a token reference to their "disappointing" home record. Much was made of the fact that both the Huns 2 points in last year's Champions league were garnered away from home.
Incidentally, that tally of two points is another record that the Scottish press can't bring themselves to mention, the lowest ever points total of any British side in the Champions League, although Jackson, Traynor, Keevins & co were slavvering at the mouth when Celtic played Villareal in December 2008 needing a win to avoid taking that dubious distinction from the Govan Orcs. The win was duly secured although with great emphasis placed by the Scottish media on the under-strength team fielded by the Spaniards and their apparent lack of commitment, the media displaying all the traits of bitter huns enraged at a Celtic victory. Of course we can console ourselves in the knowledge that if Rangers ever pull off a good result against a big-name team fielding a weakened line-up equal emphasis would be placed on this fact... Anyway, all mention of this particular entry in the history books disappeared into the ether with Celtic's victory to be brought out again only if the Celts ever face the same prospect again, although the Huns seem determined to go on lowering the bar as far as that particular record is concerned.
But let's take a slightly closer look at the claims made by the Central Quay Rangers Supporters branch. So the Huns had an "impressive" away record in last year's Champion's League did they? Two points from a possible nine. Fuck me what a sensational record that is!! Picking up 22% of the points available is not something most of us would describe as "impressive".
Now, we all acknowledge that Celtic's away record in the Champions League is pish. Keith Union Jackson and his cronies love nothing more to revel in this and rhyme off the stats. "1 point in 15 attempts... 1 point from 16 games yadda yadda yadda". Such references are punctuated with words such as "dismal", "abysmal" and "appalling". It doesn't even need to be an away game for this to be dredged up. Jangle began his match report on Celtic's 2-0 win over Villareal with something about people who say Celtic's away record is rotten have a point but usually Celtic don't. The semi-literate turd having given up a promising stand up career touring Orange Lodges to scribble pish like this in Scotland's establishment rag.
Now to be fair, as I mentioned, the rags did make token reference to the Huns' shitey performances at home last season, although these were described as "disappointing", Terms such as "appalling","dreadful" and "shocking", as well as the cracking the jokes about three point plugs in Europe are reserved for Timmy. So how does this record stack up?
HUNS HOME CL RECORD SEASON 2008/09 Played 3, Won 0, Drawn 0, Lost 3, F 2, A 10, PTS 0
Add on the Huns' two previous home games from the previous season's CL:
HUNS HOME CL RECORD LAST 5 GAMES Played 5, Won 0, Drawn 1, Lost 4, F 2, A 14, PTS 1
1 point from a possible 15, goal difference = minus 12. If that's not "appalling", "dismal" or "dreadful", I don't know what is. "Disappointing" is not the adjective any objective observer would use.
And yes, I realise I have selectively left out Der Huns opening CL victory of season 2007/08, but if the Scottish media can selectively ignore season 1997/98 on a technicality in an effort to bum up the Fat Monster Much Eater at the expense of Henrik Larsson then I can do the same, with much more justification.
Finally, a lot has been said about the outstanding tactical abilities of the Man with no Surname. The Scottish press have laughably attempted to convince us that Alex Ferguson is in some way intimidated by the man who led Rangers to humiliation at the hands of such illustrious teams as Grasshoppers, Strasbourg, Kaunas and Unirea Urziceni, whilst at the same time painting a picture of these "giants" of the game engaged in mutual fellatio given their achievements in the game. They don't explain how many CIS Cups is equal to a European Cup though. Anyway, let's have a look at this record that has Sir Awex keeching his Ys:
Played 31, Won 5, Drawn 11, Lost 15. Won 16%. Last 12 games in Europe without a win.
So you might be able to see why I find today's lectures from the Orc minions on what it takes to get a result in Europe as akin to George Michael giving advice on how to remain celibate.
As a wee add on, this from Fanzone:
Match Fixing Alive and Kicking In Champions League!
When the Manchester United team was announced at 7.00pm on Tuesday evening and it included TEN changes from Saturday’s line-up, I smelled a rat.
For days before the MM and Man Utd game all we got from the newspapers on both sides of the border was page after page of how great Walter Smith is and what a fantastic job he’s done at Legoland.
You know the stuff.
How the banks have stopped him buying players, (apart from Davis, Miller, Lafferty etc, etc.)
How he’s kept a steady ship while everything around him has been falling apart, (I wish)
How he should be compared to…..Jock Stein.
Now THAT’S beyond a joke.
So, when Fergie decides to play his reserve side in a Champions League group match, should we really be surprised?
I could go on about anti-football, al a Messi and Collymore but all I want to say is this……
Celtic played in Manchester twice, did Fergie play his reserves against us?
Not a chance.
UEFA should investigate Manchester United team selection and do what the Premier League did to Wolves’ Mick McCarthy last season for playing a weakened team.
The whole thing stinks!

People pay a lot of money for CL tickets, Ferguson has a responsability to field a strong team. He is in the entertainment field and people pay their money to be entertained.

No old pals act, imo....just a total OVER ESTIMATION of his own reserve players.... totally agree, he's almost as arrogant as wenger. im a man u fan aswell, so not chuffed on 2 counts. was praying they'd hump the hun and leave them struggling for fourth spot, good point is tho, he cant afford to play a reserve side at the hundome and if the turks get something from their games against the hun wattie may still attain his points total from last season ;D
