Noticed that the Mexican ESPN site says it's a loan. The Video Celts site reporting the guy is coming on trial. Video Celts: videocelts.com/Mexican striker Gustavo Adrian Ruelas Aguilar is reported to be coming on trial to Celtic from Club Santos. Celtic have opened a relationship with the club to explore coaching and marketing opportunities on the back of signing Efrain Juarez. Gustavo was born in Fontana California and joined Santos four years ago after a spell playing for Chivas USA and has played for both the Mexican u-18 side and USA u-20 team. In July he was part of the US squad that won in the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland scoring three goals in three games. The nature of any trial with Celtic is unclear with a work permit required if any permanent transfer is to go through. Celtic currently have Trinidadian striker Shahdon Winchester over on a two week trial.

Quote from the player, albeit through 'google translate': THIS IS A DREAM: Ruel Gustavo Adrian Ruelas, near Celtic player, was convinced of the great opportunity that is presented to the international football. "It's a very important step in my football career, the dream of any player young or established in the First Division, is a big step that I take." He added: "I would have imagined (going abroad), but not at such a young age, such a short time, my goal was to play in the First Division Saints have a tournament or two and look to the future, thanks to God gives me a chance before and go with everything."

All the big teams, from Barcelona to Arsenal and the rest, bring in young players from all across the world. That's not bad company to be in and I say better late than never.

One for the development squad I think.
Don't think he's played a first team game for Santos Laguna yet, wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near our first team squad.

Agree with that much the same as winchester who we have on trial. What impact do you think it has on the youngsters already on the books at celtic when they see these other young players being brought in on trial/loan?

Maybe it will make them better players if they are playing with continental players, if the boys we have at the moment are good enough they will have no problems,we have a lot of good players in the youths and a lot loaned out as well, whilst these guys are out getting good experience Celtic are doing the right thing in bringing in a new batch of youngsters.

I don't think it'll have that much of an effect, if they aren't confident enough in their own ability to out perform others in their position then they would have struggled to make the impact required anyway.

I hope these new avenues prove fruitful on the park rather than the merchandise counter. The reason they started the deal with Santos was to try and get players in from them, if we can get anything mechandise wise we should go for it.

I hope these new avenues prove fruitful on the park rather than the merchandise counter. I think one follows on from the other. Celtic's merchandising went through the roof in Japan because Nakamura was such a success here. If the players don't make the grade and aren't playing regularly in the first team then there's nothing to hype and no commercial by-product.

He scores the 3rd goal in this game.6 mins 20 secs in. www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/milkcup/?vid=p0095t6hCeltic hot on trail of Mexican strike ace * 10570177 * Santos star Adrian said to be on his way Ronnie Cully Share 0 comments 16 Sep 2010 Celtic are ready to double the Mexican contingent at the club with the imminent arrival of another young star striker, Adrian Ruelas. Manager Neil Lennon has been delighted with the way Efrain Juarez has settled into the club after arriving in the summer. Now the Parkhead club’s investment in developing links with Central America has thrown up another possible signing in 19-year-old Ruelas. Reports in Mexico claim he is on his way from his club Santos to Glasgow on a season-long loan, with the option of a permanent deal being struck if the former Chivas US player impresses in Glasgow. A Santos spokesman confirmed: “As part of a co-operation agreement between Santos Laguna and Celtic, it has been confirmed a temporary arrangement with an option to buy for our player, Gustavo Adrian Ruelas Aguilar, has been reached with the Scottish team.” Californian-born Ruelas has already proved a big hit on the other side of the Atlantic. He played for the Mexican national under-age sides, but has since switched allegiance to the US and is a member of their successful Under-20 squad. He first came to the attention of scouts from this country during the summer when he played for America in the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland, scoring three goals. Celtic have used their contacts in Mexico to put together a deal to bring him over for a year, and the teenager is expected to initially be part of the growing development squad which is under the control of Danny McGrain. Lennon is already exploring the possibility of signing Trinidad teenage hot-shot Shahdon Winchester, who has made a strong case for a deal with his performances in training and with two goals in a game against Motherwell reserves earlier this week. www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/celtic-hot-on-trail-of-mexican-strike-ace-1.1055629

Celtic have denied any deal is in place to sign United States Under-20 striker Adrian Ruelas. The denial comes after Mexican top-flight outfit Santos Laguna announced that the 19-year-old would be joining Celtic on a temporary basis with a view to a full transfer, as part of their co-operation agreement with the Parkhead club. But the Hoops insist they have not yet committed to any deal with the player, whose full name is Gustavo Adrian Ruelas, although they have invited the teenager to train with them. A club spokesman said: "Celtic can confirm they are in discussions with Santos Laguna with a view to developing a potential football and commercial relationship. "With regards to the player in question, we understand he's an exceptional talent and we are looking at giving him the opportunity to come and train with Celtic. "It should be noted that there is no formal loan or transfer agreement concerning the player at this stage." The California-born teenager represented Mexico at various youth levels before switching to the land of his birth. But Ruelas has not yet established himself as a regular in the Santos Laguna team and - if he wins a deal with Celtic - he is likely to form part of the development squad coached by Danny McGrain. www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11787_6380335,00.html
