Here's my theory...
With the EPL 25 player roster limit this transfer window is shaping up to be one mad scramble at the close of business.
To date Celtic has brought in a boatload of new players but by my calculation there is still room for one or maybe even two more late additions. The squad looks fresh and strong enough to compete for the League as things stand right now. In this scenario I am making the assumption that Stokes is already signed.
It appears to me that we still have some money available to spend either now or in January. The Club is in a good position to be able to lie in the weeds and wait for the perfect opportunity to bring in a top quality player or two should the price be right at the end of the window. In fact there is some talk that EPL clubs will actually be "paying" part of the future club's obligation just to get them off their books.
If we get a good deal on the right player don't be surprised to see a last minute signing. If we don't find good value then we've already done enough to win the SPL (in some people's view...mine too) so we won't have to panic and pay over market to get in a player on the last day.
So I know that I may be accused of drinking green Kool-Aid with this theory. What does anyone else think of this possibility?
Hail Hail

You have me strangely interested Professor.
It does actually make sense for the English clubs to leave it to the last possible moment. Their league has started so they wouldn't want to send players out just in case of injury or whatever happening early on in the season.
I hope you are right mate.

The flurry of activity will start early doors tomorrow. Teams will be wanting to get the excess players to other teams to get them playing in the next few months. They cannot rely on just getting games in Carling Cup/FA Cup. I am not counting European games as I assume the 25 players registered for EPL will be the same for Europe.

I would love to see us sign a centre half with a bit of pace

I agree that we could run with what we have just now, assuming Stokes is confirmed. However if there's the chance of getting a player from the fringes of an EPL Squad then that might be just the icing we need on the cake.

Wonder if they will go for ones who can't play in Europe.
That still cracks me up btw. Jelavic must be raging, his "shop window" is now limited to Scottish competitions. Which no-one outside of Scotland cares about.
