IT was another magical moment, one that will live long in the memories of those who witnessed it. And, as Paddy McCourt explains on tonight’s episode of The Huddle Online, his strike against Hearts is now his favourite goal in the Hoops.
Speaking exclusively on our Wednesday, September 15, show on Channel 67, Celtic’s official online channel, Paddy talks about his strike at the weekend and about living up to the tag of Celtic’s great entertainer.
“I just remember picking the ball up and doing what I usually do, which is to attack the defender,” said Paddy. “It opened up quite well, the keeper came out and luckily enough, I was able to just dink it over him.
“That was my first goal at home,” he added. “I’ve been lucky enough to get a few away from home, but to get that one on Saturday was an extra bit special and it’s probably my favourite goal since I have been here.”
Paddy also talks about the way the team is taking shape, his own place in that side and about Saturday’s anniversary of the death of ‘Mr Stein’ – a figure who he has an immense amount of respect for.
Tonight’s show also includes an interview with Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, who was in India this week, forging a lasting link between the club and Indian football.
“Potentially, it’s a very exciting project,” he explained. “We are partnering a major, Indian conglomerate, Mahindra. They are investing in grassroots football and the first stage of that is a youth football tournament and, as part of that, Celtic will be the football partner.
“We have had a marketing agency, looking after our interests in India, for some time now. We have been trying to find out about football in that country, about the game and how it is developing.”
Peter goes on to talk about Celtic’s appeal in foreign markets, in particular to people from outside the Scottish and Irish diaspora.
“The Celtic story is a remarkable one, one that appeals to all people, no matter who they are,” he said. “Right from the charitable beginnings, through the triumphs and tragedies, the successes and characters who have played here and our way of playing football.
“It’s a unique story and one that reaches football fans all over the world and even people who are not fans of the game. It’s going to be a busy few days, but it’s worthwhile. We are going out, planting the seeds and I love having the opportunity to speak to people about Celtic”
We are also joined by Celtic View editor, Paul Cuddihy, for a look at this week’s headlines. Paul also talks about the latest Celtic book to hit the shelves, Century Bhoys and we give you the chance to win a copy in today’s competition.
You can watch The Huddle Online, every week night – except on a match day, on Channel 67, Celtic’s official online channel.
