Charlie was a tremendous player for us, he left far too early and to the wrong team.

I was at that game with a few mates who had come up from England to see their first Glasgow derby, a good night was had by all, amazing that back then the huns had the whole of their end as well as a third of the main stand, even more miserable faces tee hee.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm positive he made his derby debut in a 3-0 defeat at Slybrox in November 1980.

You may be right that he played at Ibrox first Freddy, did he come on as a sub that day maybe? This clip comes from the 'Magic Moments' DVD, and the narrator, Dominik Diamond, says: "A championship decider from 1981. Celtic were top of the league - beat Rangers and it was all but over. A roll call of Celtic legends included a teenage striker making his first start in an Old Firm game. His name was Charlie Nicholas."

He had all the talent in the world but never a legend. As CC said he left to early and for the wrong club. Had he signed for Liverpool or Manchester United he could of become a real star.

First Hun game I went to the jungle so has very special memories for me.The huns were that bad at that time it always annoys me we didn't give them a real hammering.Colin Jackson again had another great game for us by"misjudging the bounce" for the second and playing a great one two with Big Roy for the 3rd.Nicholas had 2 great seasons for us and did want to stay with us for at least another season however the Celtic board were desperate to get the money for him.Not a Celtic legedt, like diCanio, because he wasn't with us long enough.

However, when he played the next time at Ibrox that season in April '81, he scored the winner in a 1-0 victory which all but clinched the league. The 3-1 win at Parkhead in the February was his home debut in a derby match and if my memory serves me correct, Roy Aitken scored the third by playing a "one-two" off Colin Jackson!

Let me assure you, there were very few Celtic players who were better than Nicholas, he was a special player.

Brings back great memories that one - watched it from The Jungle as a youth!
Wonder whatever happened to Mark Reid, Tom McAdam, Dom Sullivan and Mike Conroy. Spoke many times years ago with Mike Conroy's brother who was the parish priest in Newton Stewart, when I worked there. Totally down to earth, decent guy. Always welcomed us in for a cup of tea and a chat about football in general!
Memories!

Nicholas, you are right, was a special player but he never fulfilled his undoubted potential by leaving us as young as he did and signing for, what was, a mediocre Arsenal side at the time.
