I never, ever thought I'd again see a player in a Celtic shirt who could go past men as if they weren't there the way Jimmy Johnstone could.
Paddy McCourt will probably never equal Jimmy's achievments, but he has the potential to be a Celtic great if he can harness his talent and produce what we saw on Saturday on a consistent basis.
Like Jimmy, Paddy has the ability to get punters excited by the sheer magic of wonderful movement.
I fervently hope he gets a run in the team and produces Saturday's form regularly.

He really is a class act is our Paddy. His goal against Hearts was, as you say Carntyne, as if the Hearts players were not there.

He scored a great goal on saturday but to be honest before that he was running into players, his passing is tremendous and teams are now doubling up on him, Hearts did it when he came on and the only time they didn't he punished them.

I think Paddy is at his best when brought on a sub. Let him run at defenders when they are a bit tired toward the end of the match.

He is an impact player and should be used as such. I have seen nothing in his time at Celtic to suggest he could last 90mins let alone run at defenders consistently. What he does is magical and joyful and I would love to see him do the same throughout every game, but realistically I dont think there is much chance of that happening.

If he can do that in half or quarter off the games he plays he will hit double figures, which is what we need from people like Paddy, he gets me on the edge off my chair whenever he is on the ball, very few players can keep up consistantly beating men, but when he does, he does it in style, thats what we want. Hail Hail

Paddy is a genius. How many have we had to watch recently?Yet we still have fans saying just to use him as an impact player from the bench.Maybe that is true, but until he gets a run of games, how will we ever know?I for one would hate to see us losing him,due to lack of games, then him running riot for some other team.We mump and moan about not enough quality, skill,me as well,so I would love to see the boy get a real chance to have us drooling every week.If he does really prove to be short of stamina after that, then I"m sure the boy will realise that, and be happy to be an impact player.I just want to see more of him, cant help it.

I have faith in Neil Lennon to use him in a way that gets the most out of Paddy and helps the Club in the best way possible.

I think due to the nature of his goals up to this point he has already garunteed there will come a point in 20 years or so when I say to my kids, "there was this one Celtic player called Paddy McCourt..."
Granted, they'll probably interrupt me and say, "oh aye, we saw him on youtube."

Think Paddy is a great talent, but as an old fart who has been watching from the early 60's he has a long, long way to go to be mentioned in the same breath as Jinky, can he get up after bein hacked time and again and still be a matchwinner? don't see it so far, but a great player in this time of moderate, moderate players getting lauded to the highest, keep up the good work Paddy

I dont want to get too carried away here,Paddy really does look the real deal, but so far we have a talented hungry player giving it his all for the short time he gets on the park.I would prefare to see Paddy get an extended run in the side, see what he can do over 90 mins, will he get frustrated if things arnt working ? will he fade out of games if he is stiffled ? i dont think those two things will happen in truth, but until he gets a run in the side then we will never know.

his goal on saturday was sublime,a jimmy johnstone? not for me. my dad was saying today that he is more like charlie tully than wee jinky. he's seen the three of them and over the years he has been a good judge of a footballer, so i'll stick his opinion on here

Not being funny but to mention those two players in the same sentence is just WRONG... ... YES paddy has potential but the proof is in the pudding... he cant last 90 minutes everyone knows that, and teams will now just double up on him the same way we did with laudrup... i will eat humble pie a plenty if he turns out to be a star...

Not being funny but to mention those two players in the same sentence is just WRONG... No it's not.
I compared the way both players can go past opponents as if they weren't there.
That's all.
Neither my comments or yours are wrong.
They are just opinions.

I agree Carntyne, the boy is a joy to watch.I used to be devastated when I turned up at Parkhead, and Jimmy was not playing, for one reason or another. He was and always will be immortal to me,the greatest ball player EVER.I wanted him to play for his beloved hoops forever.Sadly, not possible.Thats why I cant understand some fans saying Paddy should be used sparingly.Just enjoy the boy,and never mind all this fitness debate. We could be watching his genius for years, how many more of these special goals could we see to brighten up our lives. The old saying"you dont know what you"ve got till its gone"really does apply here.Enjoy him while we have him,he plays the game "The Glasgow Celtic Way".
