Without doubt our ace in the hole, just hope we dont fall in to the trap of depending too heavily on him,i would prefare to see him get a lot more playing time, but as he says himself the competition for starting places is tough.

I think he's perfect for coming on in the second half, once there's tired legs in the opposition defence. Then he runs rings round them and scores those sort of goals! ;D

He is one off those rarities that have all but dissapeared from the game, an old fashioned "Tanner Baw" player, some consider him a luxury, I consider him a genius, geniuses drift in and out off games, I have seen the best, Connelly, Best, Jinky etc, they all have that one trait, and that is that special bit off magic that can change a game, and entice supporters into the ground in the hope off seeing the magic at first hand. Paddy to my mind is a luxury we can well afford, just for the fact that he MIGHT turn a game our way, he won't always do it, but he just might. Hail Hail

I agree with Colonel Mustard, he has terrific impact when he comes off the bench, don't know how happy he is being consigned to the bench as most pros would tell you they want to start, it seems to me he is far less effective when he starts.

Solskjær seemed happy enough to do it at Man Utd, primarily be used as an impact sub. Hopefully Paddy is the same and we can keep him.

I read them somewhere last week and he never scored anywhere near the amount coming off the bench as you may think. As for Paddy McCourt......is he ever going to just score a goal we would class as normal? Every goal is class. In fact if it were Messi or Ronaldo it would be classed as a world class goal.

I'm not saying he scored a lot of goals mate. I have no idea how many he scored. Just that he was happy to stay at United even if he was used mostly as a sub. I think it's fair to say that the fans loved him for it.

He was never primarily used as a sub. The thing about Solskjaer is not that he was happy to be a sub, but that he was happier to be at Man U, even if he didn't always start, than somewhere else. Hopefully Paddy feels the same about us.

I realise that, Seany. The difference may be that Paddy will have to accept being primarily used as a sub, something Solskjaer never had to do. I hope he will be willing to do that.

2003/04 13 appearances 2004/05 00 appearances 2005/06 03 appearances 2006/07 19 appearances
He retired in August 2007
That's a total of 35 in 4 years, or an average of 9 a year.
Prior to that he was much more regular, yes. However I stick by what I said. "...he was happy to stay at United even if he was used mostly as a sub. I think it's fair to say that the fans loved him for it. " There were 68,000 at his testimonial FFS.

Paddy McCourt has said he gets a thrill from being the entertainer at Celtic Park but hopes to convince his manager he can be a regular 90 minute performer. The Northern Ireland winger scored Celtic’s third goal against Hearts on Saturday with the flair that is becoming customary for him.
McCourt had scored the winner at Inverness on opening day but picked up a freak injury in the ensuing celebration. That meant he had to wait for his chance from the bench and he said he hoped his latest thrilling cameo could see him edge ahead of the competition for a first team slot.
"Coming on and scoring goals won't do me any harm," he said. "The competition in the wide areas and up front is really strong and it is driving everyone on.
"There are probably four or five strikers who think they should be playing every week and maybe three or four wingers as well.
"I'm sure when the manager sits down on a Friday or Saturday to pick the team he has a few headaches but that is better than struggling to pick 11 players."
* Celtic 3-0 Hearts * Lennon makes case for defence
Celtic have started impressively in the SPL, winning all four matches, and McCourt said he realised that made it difficult to push his claim for a place in the starting line-up. Fellow wide men James Forrest and Shaun Maloney also shone at Parkhead, with both getting on the scoresheet.
"I started the first game but picked up an injury and James and Shaun have started the last few games,” McCourt added.
"But I think it would be a bit stupid to knock on the door when we have won every game and haven't conceded a goal yet."
Solo strikes against Falkirk and St Mirren, as well as the goal against Inverness, have seen McCourt gain a reputation as a flair player. He said he was happy to be viewed as one of the men who could bring a crowd to their feet.
"The expectancy is something I thrive on," he said. "I always get a buzz when I hear the reception when I come on.
"I know people are there to see me entertain and that is the strongest part of my game so if I can keep producing goals and chances for the team then hopefully that will be good enough."

From the Celtic website, I bet the buzz from the stands also makes opposition defenders a bit nervous...
LIKE sweet icing on top of a delicious cake, Paddy McCourt’s late entrance on Saturday against Hearts rounded off the tasty clash.
And doing what he does best, the fans’ favourite lit up Paradise with his breathtaking ability.
As if the team’s performance and 3-0 victory against the Edinburgh side wasn’t enough to leave the Celtic fans celebrating, the Irishman stole the show with a late solo effort which was also his first on home turf.
“My first goal for the club was away at Falkirk and that was really special but to get my first at Celtic Park is a dream come true,” McCourt explained to the Celtic View.
He entered the fray with 13 minutes remaining and completed the 3-0 rout with a stoppage-time goal to secure all three points for the Hoops.
But it wasn’t just any goal, for Paddy McCourt has shown he doesn’t score average goals for Celtic.
Gaining a reputation for crafty footwork and sublime finishes, the ‘Derry Pele’ ran on to the pitch to a standing ovation on Saturday and didn’t let the crowd down.
A minute into injury-time, McCourt danced past two players before lobbing the ball over Hearts keeper Marian Kello and into the far corner of the net as Neil Lennon’s side made it four wins out of four.
“I feel expectancy from the stands but it’s something I thrive on,” McCourt admitted. “I always get a buzz when I hear the reception when I come on and I know people see me as an entertainer. That’s the strongest part of my game.
“So I’m hoping I can keep doing that, producing goals and chances in the game and hopefully that will be good enough.
“To be honest, I don’t really care what my goals are like, whether they are from two yards or one like Saturday. I’m not really bothered, as long as I’m contributing to the team and producing goals.”

If the coaches don't think he is fit for full competitive matches then it makes more sense to bring him on later. Celtic normally do well towards the end of games because other teams tire. That's when Paddy is at his best.
