Motherwell 0 Celtic 1Alan Thompson: "Today was a good reaction to what happened last Thursday. We got them in Friday and we sat down and had a chat. Everyone got bits off their chest, the players and the coaching staff." "It was a clear the air. We watched the (Utrecht) game through again, everyone together. It was good, it was beneficial. This is a valuable three points. It was always going to be difficult coming here after Utrecht. So we are very pleased to get the points and the performance with it." "It was a test. Some of the players knew what they were coming into today because they have been in Scotland for a while. But there were boys coming in who hadn't and they coped well. Emilio was excellent from start to finish. It wasn't easy for him. For a lad who only arrived Friday morning after a long flight, and having not done much training he was excellent." "Fraser (Forster) coped OK in his first game for six weeks. He's only been training for four or five days, so I'm pleased he kept a clean sheet and he can get two weeks training before our next game. "After last week we can now focus on the domestic stuff. But let's not get away from it, we're disappointed we're not in Europe." "We had a nominated penalty taker, but he didn't fancy it. Shaun Maloney said he fancied it, but Daryl grabbed the ball first. It was pleasing to see Daryl take responsibility. He's a goalscorer and once he got the ball we were confident he would stick it away." Daryl Murphy:"It was important to get a positive result after the bad one during the week. It was also important for me to get off the mark as early as I could. Thankfully I've done that. It's down to me to keep my place. I have to produce in training and then it's up to the boss." "I know Stokesy from my time at Sunderland and the Irish team. If he does come in then it's more competition for places and everyone gets revved up a bit more. But every big club needs competition for places and guys who all want to start on a Saturday." "There was no question of me not taking the penalty. I said to Scott Brown before the game if we got one I was taking it. Simple as that. I was practising them during the week and I wanted to take it. To be fair to Shaun Maloney he asked if I wanted it and I said yes. He didn't really want a fight about it - he just let me get on with it. I had a feeling about a penalty. I said we'd get one and I'd take it. "I know Georgios Samaras was the designated penalty taker, but even if he'd been on the park he wouldn't have got the ball from me. When you come to a big club you have to accept responsibility. I was confident I'd score. It was better that I took it at the Celtic end as the fans were great." "A settled team is important, but we have a big squad and we'll need to use that. It's the manager's decision and everyone has to impress in training. We could have had more goals, but the result is all that matters. I knew it was a massive club and I had no right to start. Guys who did well in pre-season were in and I had to bide my time and hope I got the chance to do well. It's down to the boss to say if he needs new players. We don't have that many strikers on the books. It's a long season with a lot of games and we need as many players as we can get in." Craig Brown:"I compliment Celtic on their display and their support. I felt the left-back Izaguirre was terrific. For a moment there I actually thought that we were up against Roberto Carlos! It was an outstanding debut. But it shows Celtic can bring people in and we can't. There's a huge financial gulf there."

mik can you find the post match interview from craig brown where he admits it was a definate penalty i cant find it anywhere its like it never happened From the BBC interview: "And the penalty was the most softly conceded foul." Brown accepted the challenge by Steven Saunders on Shaun Maloney merited the award of a penalty but was unsure whether the Motherwell defender should have been sent off."Maloney is on his left side, his weaker side, he's going away from goal," he said. "I said to Steven, whose an outstanding young defender, that he's got a lot of work to do to score. "He actually leant on him very slightly, I've looked at the tape. I've also looked at Dougie McDonald's positioning. It's easy to give a penalty for the Old Firm with the fans behind that goal. He's an excellent referee, an honest guy. He was so prompt with his decision. "It was a challenge. We thought it was a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge. There was a slight handling over Shaun Maloney's shoulder from Steven. In the middle of the park, it might have gone unpunished. "The foolishness was on our part, on Steven's part because he shouldn't have made any challenge at all. He should keep running alongside him, keep forcing him away from goal and, if he gets a shot away, I felt with the form our keeper was in it would've been a save. "We conceded possession in midfield very softly (in the run up to the penalty) and, when you do that against good players, you're liable to be punished. The nature of the goal makes us feel very disappointed, but I've got to be honest and say Celtic were the better team." news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/motherwell/8953761.stm

If Forster has barely trained then he is clearly the new Number 1 choice. Similarly with Izzy, if that's him after a long flight and not having trained with his team mates that only bodes well for the future.
