Joe Ledley has blasted critics of the Scottish game and insists the standard is not as bad as people think. The Welsh star reckons the SPL has become an easy target after recent defeats in Europe. But Ledley believes the standard is every bit as good as the npower Championship, where he played for Cardiff City. He said: “The standard is pretty good and the teams I have played so far have been very competitive. “I don’t know what people are talking about when they say the SPL is not as good as the Championship.” While the Parkhead club is still licking its wounds after exits from the Champions league and the Europa League inside a few weeks, Ledley insisted Neil Lennon’s men have the quality to take the title from Rangers. He said: “We have started well in the league and need to keep it up, but we are obviously disappointed with the way Europe went. “Our focus is now entirely on winning the league and the cups and to kick-off with three clean sheets is a big confidence boost. There is a lot of quality in midfield with Scott Brown, Shaun Maloney, Efrain Juarez and Beram Kayal. “So it is good that we have competition for places because it keeps you on your toes.” A minute’s will take place ahead of the SPL clash with Hearts to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Jock Stein’s death. And Ledley is well aware of the legendary Hoops manager’s massive contribution to British football. He told Channel 67: “He is a true football legend and I know a good bit about him because there was a plaque on the away dug-out at Ninian Park.” www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/joe-ledley-s-pot-shot-at-spl-snipers-1.1054031

Well Joe is qualified to speak on the subject so I won't disagree with him. a lot of people run down the quality of the spl so its good to hear praise from a guy who has played in both.

I think that people confuse the quality of play with the quality of the support. If you watched SPL footy without knowing how small the crowds were in most of the grounds you would say the play is pretty good.

Apart from some games in the EPL it can be boring and the same even more so for the Championship. Think there is certainly and anglo-centric bias shown by many fans in general, and the media in particular against the SPL.

I would not expect Ledley to say otherwise having moved to Celtic...I am kinda cynical about what players have to say and largely (but for a few notable exceptions) in my experience they are disingenuous in their commentary. I dont know the guy well enough from previous quotes to make a judgement about whether or not he is genuine.

What else would he say tbh... the spl has been going downhill for years now and it is showing no signs of getting better imho... sorry but with me going to all the home and away games, whenever i get the chance to watch a game it is always dreadful....for me i would rather watch the premiership than spl but each to there own i suppose.. ...

he is saying the exact same as guys like sutton, larsson, hartson and co said, the SPL is not an easy league to play in.especially if you play for any of the 2 big teams, because every team you play is like a cup final to a lot of players.
