I suppose this is mainly aimed at the 50 + members, yes Masty that now includes you,but would be interesting to hear the views of the younger members.I was looking through some old footage of CELTIC and suddenly realized just how much going to Parkhead had changed over the years, how much the playing style had changed and the general fitness, there seems to have been massive changes in just a short space of time,40 years is nothing memory wise. Firstly its CELTIC park and not Parkhead, well it was and always will be Parkhead to me,getting to the game used to be so simple, jump on a bus in Clydebank and get off outside the ground, simple, not anymore,it relay does seem to be if not difficult then at the very least awkward to get to the ground now,ok i could get a 62,i think thats the bus,but it takes so long i would have to catch it on Friday. The other thing is stewards,Ware the hell did they all come from, theres millions of them,im pretty dam sure we didn't have anywhere near that amount, hell im hard pressed to remember seeing any, though i assume there must have been. That brings me to terraces,ah the good auld terraces, god i miss them, dust in your eyes and throat in the summer, kept you warm in the winter, and gave you that warm glow down the back of your leg,the atmosphere was amazing, never matted who we were playing it was electric and the noise was C/L night every week.I ,like every auld fart here, was privileged to see some of the greatest players ever to pull on the HOOPS,seen some stinkers as well mind you, todays players are fitter, faster and stronger than yesterday,s players,so heres a question, why do the fitter players get injured a lot more than the players of yesteryear ? im sure we never suffered that badly through injuries in the 60,s and early 70,s,could it be that todays players are over trained ? or are they simply big girl,s blouses.Going to Parkhead after all these years still gives me a buzz, when i see the stadium in the distance my heart still misses a beat and i wouldn't ever change that,i suppose i really only have 2 main gripes here.
1, bring back the terraces, aye warm feeling on the back of my leg as well
2,whats this being able to buy burgers and chickens coke and coffee, get rid of all that tasteless muck,a pie a bovril and if your really flushed a macaroon bar
Aye things have changed over the years and not all for the best, one thing though remains steady,my love for CELTIC and my overwhelming desire to watch the CELTIC win trophy,s HAIL HAIL MON THE HOOPS

That would be crabbitwrinkliecsc.
Have to say my formative years were spent as an Ayresome Angel so cannot reminisce about Parkhead in the early days but can see how the fond memories are nice and hazy. I do remember the great swells of movement on the terraces when action threatened hoping I wouldn't get the barrier in my chest. Always stood in front of a barrier, and taking your life in your hands on the stairs out, and dodging bottles from opposing fans. But the singing was better and the atmosphere - I assume the same can be applied to Parkhead. Howevver my heart stirs when I apporach CP, especially on a Euro night and the atmosphere was brill. Can't comment on this season

Getting "a lift over" the turnstyles, cheese and spam rolls lol, having your scarves tied on your wrist, standing in the "jungle" and the little light blue invalid cars round the track are some of my favourite memories.

Peeing into an empty beer can that had been pierced around the edges of the lid- quite a scary thought!
also the sight of the turnstyle operators - 20 minutes into the game, being escorted around the track and up the tunnel.
Learning all the rebel songs from the Shamrock boys on the Milburn bus- open backed double decker goint to likes of Tynecastle.

Lots of great memories in this thread. Remember the Jungle toilets with the longest urinals in the world - and the snack bar next to it so you could smell the pies while you were having a p!sh? And vice versa.

first started going to Parhead as a lad in the early 70's. our bus from the local pub in new stevenston coming in from the east so most of the guys went to "the rangers end" except for OF games obviously.
getting lifted over by ma da and big bother. even when i started paying in the "boys gate" i swear half the guys around me were over 20.

We always parked away down London Road, and just the sight off the Floodlights on a cold winters night for a European tie fair got the hairs on the back off the neck standing in anticipation, you could see those floodlights for miles. Hail Hail

First game was at Firhill when I was a wean.Father took me to see Charlly Tully.Dont remember much about it.Used to walk up from Paisley Rd Toll, get the ferry across to Anderson, the tram,or bus up to Parkhead, lift over, even hun games, worked your way down to the front,to see.Can remember the pre-season friendlies,it was the first team against the reserves, and they wore the old shamrock strip.Remember it,anyone?First saw Jinky in it.The old jungle was known as the "coo shed".Not the shiny new one most will remember. The huns used to get half of it for OF games, and the whole of the then,"rangers end,and half of the old stand. The big pylon floodlights we used to have, would beonly on half, then just before KO,they would turn them on full,to thunderous roars. When too big for the "lift over"went in the "boys gate" at Janefield St,ninepence,about,4p to get in,can remember some hairy @rsed"boys"trying to get in there.Great memories, and always felt like you were part of something. The feeling has never left.

Do you think as nippers we had it better ? do the kids today get as starry eyed as we did then ? is there more injuries today to supposidly fitter players ? or is it a case that we simply never heard about it .
