...would you wear the No. 7 jersey if it were offered to you by the Club?

of course I would, it would be an honour. If on thew other hand you want my view about whether he is fit to wear it, well I would say not yet and only time will tell whether he would fill that shirt adequately

Well therein lies the rub doesn't it Jim? How mentally tough will he be? Would it propel him on to bigger and better things or would it be a millstone to carry that would negatively impact his play?
I was just thinking that with all this talk of a No. 7 yet to be signed what if there was no Keane or someone of that stature and he was offered the shirt. Would he take it? Should he? Hmmmmm......

Skippy went from 27 to 7 to oot the door.
Keane made it work for him.
I don't think anyone has really deserved it since Larsson wore it. Although I could make an argument that giving it to Keane straight away was the right thing to do.

The bigger question Criag is should he be offered it? The supporters see that shirt, quite rightly, as iconic and consequently the manager would have to think long and hard before allocating it to someone who, in relative terms, has yet to prove himself. He might not see it as a burden but it might become so if he does not live uip to it in the eyes of the supporters.
My hope, in the absence of a marquee signing, is that young James Forrest grows into it.

I agree with all that you say Jim about the weight of the support on the back of anyone playing with that number.
Forrest? Hmmmmm...... I hope that you are right. Wouldn't that make a story for a Celtic DVD?

I am still a dreamer Craig....well as far as Celtic is concerned anyway.

You raise an interesting point Jim. Does the manager actually offer jersey numbers to the players or is that job handled by an equipment trainer. [I'm envisioning a grizzled old guy with a funny limp who's worked in the boot room for 50 years handing out the strips...kind of like Olivander's Wand Shop in the Harry Potter books]

No! No! Anthony its the No 10 for you LOL....I am still dreaming

Most of us, if we were offered the chance to earn 2,3 or 4 times or salary would move jobs. To me, you can't blame young players signing for EPL clubs and knowing if that they never move clubs or play football again, then they are still made for life by that one big transfer, whether it works out or not. IMO Stokes is a better buy now than he would have been 2 yrs ago. That said, if he signed in Jan 2009 instead of or with Willo Flood, he may have got us the couple of extra goals that were needed to win the league that year.

Never ever in my contemplation. He is a Celtic player and will get my unstinting support and hopefully he will grasp his opportunity with both hands. I am looking forward to him being a great success.

I agree, he should be a far better player now, and who knows what might have happened to him if he had joined us at that young age....there is no guarantee that he would have been successful. BTW noticed you are short on VCash...just about too sort that
