thought the team had to do what they had to do. though it wasn't the best display from the team, thought they had the most possesion and didn't really look like conceding. good result after the shambles of thursday

This was always going to be a difficult game following the debacle of thursday, difficult for Lennon and the team. Remember Motherwell, who are not a bad team, were hurting as well. Celtic made a lot of chances but squandered them. Murphy looks slow but that may improve with games, at least he was confident and assured in taking the penalty. We did what was necessary today and got the 3 points in a very unglamorous way. The pluses for me were Maloney who on the basis of today's game is near to the player he was when he won player of the year, and the new left back who had a really good first game in the hoops. Samaras continues to astound me, hate to say it but we are far more effective without him.

We created chances today but were lacking a box striker who would/should have been there to put these chances away.

I know. Maloney created a couple of chances that went across the goalkeeper but were lacking in someone who is prepared to get in there and anticipate where the ball was going. We should have won that today comfortably if we had that kind of striker.

We should have won that today comfortably if we had that kind of striker. We were talking about that today during the game.... Big Murphy was sometimes 10 yards behind Maloney when he cut it across plus we never once had anybody coming in at the back post, That in itself is shocking for a "striker"

3pts is all that really mattered today, our confidence is low after the shambles on thursday, Maybe a new face or two before tuesday, then things might take off again

We did the job , and the new left back looks decent , lets just concentrate on the domestic front and the rest will take care of itself. I would also urge EVERY celtic fan to boycott THE REAL RADIO PHONE IN as its so 1 sided and that numpty ewen is trying to discredit every1 of us as bams. He picked on Aiden last season for a dive , yet backed McGregor up for his shameful attempt to do a Laffery and Loovencrands, the guys a joke and if we stay united we can get him ousted. Hail Hail

I noticed that as well. I thought that Rasmussen would have been there. Probably can´t trap a bag of cement at training as reported but he scores goals.
Which after all is what the game is supposed to be about. javascript:adds(%22%20#e1c5ls%23%20%22)

I had forecast a 0-0 draw after only 15 mins of watching this match. We looked nervous at the back and lacked a finisher. Samaras is useless he has no ball contro;l and always turns away from goal, that is why he is easy to mark. Need to get him out of here and a goalscorer brought in. You can make as many chances as you like but without a finisher that is meaningless.

Not brillant to day, but 3 points puts us top of the league. We are creating chances but need a finisher.

Admittedly, but if you dont create chances you dont score. I am hopeful that with the addition of a striker, and hooper when he returns, we will have the firepower to turn those chances into goals. Keep creating the chances Bhoys.

Yes, 3 points are 3 points, but I think it showed today that Murphy isn't going to be a solution to our striking woes. Maloney played well but missed two gilt edged chances. Again Paddy showed more than most in the 10 minutes he was on.

DARYL MURPHY couldn't have timed his winning goal at Fir Park any better - with Celtic boss Neil Lennon trying to land TWO new strikers.
The bustling Irish hitman celebrated his first competitive strike in the Hoops by planting a penalty past wrong-footed Darren Randolph with only 18 minutes left to win it.
But if there's any pressure on the ex-Sunderland ace he's hiding it very well after insisting he isn't fazed by the idea of new additions.
One of them could be an old Republic of Ireland mate in Hibs ace Anthony Stokes.
Celtic's other target is Hapoel Tel Aviv hitman Itay Shechter, although his club are adamant he WON'T be leaving as they prepare for Champions League action.
Murphy - who worked hard and brought his team-mates into play well - told how the Hoops were desperate to atone in some way for the midweek Utrecht shocker.
He said: "It was important to get a positive result after the bad one during the week.
"It was also important for me to get off the mark as early as I could. Thankfully I've done that.
"It's down to me to keep my place. I have to produce in training and then it's up to the boss.
"I know Stokesy from my time at Sunderland and the Irish team.
"If he does come in then it's more competition for places and everyone gets revved up a bit more. But every big club needs competition for places and guys who all want to start on a Saturday.
"There was no question of me not taking the penalty. I said to Scott Brown before the game if we got one I was taking it. Simple as that.
"I was practising them during the week and I wanted to take it.
"To be fair to Shaun Maloney he asked if I wanted it and I said yes. He didn't really want a fight about it - he just let me get on with it. I had a feeling about a penalty. I said we'd get one and I'd take it.
"I know Georgios Samaras was the designated penalty taker, but even if he'd been on the park he wouldn't have got the ball from me.
"When you come to a big club you have to accept responsibility. I was confident I'd score. It was better that I took it at the Celtic end as the fans were great."
It was Murphy's first start in the SPL and he insisted he had been prepared to be patient.
And with £2.4million capture Gary Hooper possibly back in action within a fortnight the fight for places after the international break promises to be fierce.
Murphy said: "A settled team is important, but we have a big squad and we'll need to use that.
"It's the manager's decision and everyone has to impress in training.

"We could have had more goals, but the result is all that matters. I knew it was a massive club and I had no right to start.
"Guys who did well in pre-season were in and I had to bide my time and hope I got the chance to do well "It's down to the boss to say if he needs new players. We don't have that many strikers on the books.
"It's a long season with a lot of games and we need as many players as we can get in."
Murphy spoke of Friday's clear the air meeting at the training ground, just hours after the Europa League debacle in Holland.
He said: "It got us more motivated for this because it was such a bad performance.
"We just never performed from start to finish in Utrecht."
Celtic's new £600,000 Honduran left-back Emilio Izaguirre was outstanding against Well.
And his performance even had home boss Craig Brown gushing with praise.
He said: "I compliment Celtic on their display and their support.
"I felt the left-back Izaguirre was terrific. For a moment there I actually thought that we were up against Roberto Carlos! It was an outstanding debut.
"But it shows Celtic can bring people in and we can't. There's a huge financial gulf there." Reply With Quote

What is it about players having discussions on the park about who will take the penalty and comments like ..."I know Georgios Samaras was the designated penalty taker, but even if he'd been on the park he wouldn't have got the ball from me.".... I am old fashioned enough to think this should be settled before the game starts.

I didn't think the Motherwell game was particularly entertaining yesterday, we were not very convincing I have to say, but at the same time, we can't expect every game to be won at a canter, like the St Mirren game, there are going to be times when we have to grind out a result, and we did it. Thank God!
What about our defence? All and sundry in the media are condemning it, yet we have conceded a grand total of no goals.
