I think I've told you chaps before, a few of my mates and I sponsor two players at the Rovers. If you look in the programme on the sponsors page we are Pat's Pals. This really is a big game for them every year, it goes a long way to keep the club going throughout the season. It really is that important to the club. Gravesen played in it a few seasons ago, he must have been in shell shock.

They really struggle to make ends meet, CC. My pal (Pat) spent some of his summer doing things like digging drains, painting, general repair work. They really just can't afford to pay to get these things done. So the guys on the trust have to do a lot themselves. They still manage to fund raise and subsidise buses to away games and things like that though.

Agreed.
There was a heated debate with regard to whether it was valid to charge £2 for the programme. I suggested that as it was a limited edition collector's item that would be OK

There seems to be no mention of the game on the celtic main site, a bit of advertising would maybe swell the crowd

If his team folded this lhad would give up going to any matches at all. It really is a fundamental part of his life. It's his local club and he loves it.

TOFFS sells a mid 60's Rover reproduction strip (all cotton). Maybe raffling off a few of those would add to a fundraiser. I have the Celtic 67 and the Man Utd 68 TOFFS shirts and they are highest quality

Basically what happens is that Celtic generally leave stuff behind and forget to take it with them. Balls, training cones, just general stuff that the Rovers would need to buy otherwise. You have to remember that the Rovers almost couldn't play because there weren't enough working bulbs in their floodlights, they cost a couple of hundred quid each and they didn't have the money to buy them. Or that they share a lawnmower with another team to keep expenses down, they bought it together if memory serves.
Celtic doing this match helps that club to survive from year to year. It's that simple, it's a huge gate for them.
We sponsor a couple of players. Any extra money raised for that is spent at the club, for example we all have club mugs, there's a signed shirt, that type of thing. In addition a group goes once a year for the "corporate hospitality". That's drinks and a curry before the match, seat in the director's box, pie and a pint at half time. It raises a few quid which again the club really needs.

A couple of years ago, I contributed to a drive that Stockport FC had to raise funds for Edgely Park. They took a digital picture of the park and you could buy individual pixels or those in blocks. It was pretty reasonable and I think that they ended up with some decent contributions. When you went to the photo and put the curser over the pixel you could see a message from that person or group.
Maybe you could suggest that to the trust.

I go to a few rovers games every season just to see how the other half live. I have to tell you that the rovers may only have a few fans but they are as passionate about the 'vers as we are about Celtic. They also detest Airdrie, which is a bonus.

Not a bad game in patches.
It ended 3-3 and we won a penalty shoot out.
We put out a pretty young side who were out muscled and out played by Rovers. Our defending was shocking for all 3 goals.
Our best player was Islam Feruz when he came on.
A special mention has to go to the Green Brigade who basically ruined the first half. Seriously, is there any need to go to a tiny wee ground, full of families and wee kids and give it the IRA songbook then start letitng off smoke canisters?
When the Police waded in and started lifting them, they were being enthusiastically cheered on by everyone else in the ground.
I've seen some stupid behaviour at football matches, but the GB today were a disgrace to the club.
That game is Albion Rovers biggest fundraiser of the year and they cost them a fortune in Police and Fire call outs, not to mention the folks that won't bother going next year.
thats from the forum i got the score from, it's his opinion so dont shoot the messenger !

videocelts.com/2010/09/blogs/robbie-thomson-shoot-out-save-earns-celtic-jock-stein-friendship-cupCeltic’s u-19 side survived the culture shock of Third Division Albion Rovers to retain the Jock Stein Friendship Cup on penalties after a 3-3 draw at Cliftonhill. The hard working home side gave Celtic exactly the workout that they required which will provide Stevie Frail and his coaching staff with plenty to work on ahead of Saturday’s top of the table clash away to Hearts. Callum McGregoe, Filip Twardzik and Bahrudin Atajic scored for Celtic with Hugh Kerr, Peter Innes and John Gemmell replying for the home side. In the shoot out Atajic converted Celtic’s final penalty with Kieran Brennan, Islam Feruz, Stephen O’Donnell and McGregor also finding the net whilst Robbie Thomson pulled off a spectacular save from Rovers third penalty. “Our players were up against honest, hard working guys who have sustained careers in the game and they weren’t there to let our kids go out and play,” Frail said afterwards. “They made it hard, they worked us hard and at half time we were disappointed with the way that we had played. At times we were slack but we had a young side and it was a great experience for everyone. “We learned a lot from the match, they showed experience in a few situations in terms of using their body and how to clear their lines. “We encourage everyone to play the ball but you have to identify when you can and when you can’t play. “Defenders need to know when to take a touch and when to clear the ball, their development is on-going. We’ll have a few things to look at in the video analysis, we lost some sloppy goals but came through it well.” There were a few old fashioned rolls and bumps on the pitch that took the Celtic team quite a bit of getting used to with Kerr heading the homeside in front in the 11th minute. Liam Gormley wasn’t getting much change out of the home defenders with the supporting attackers of Michael Ordish, James Keatings and McGregor failing to exert their usual crisp passing style on the match. Just before the half hour mark Matty Hughes was dispossessed 30 yards from goal but new keeper Nick Feely pulled off a solid save from the advancing Rovers forward. Eight minutes from the break McGregor equalised for Celtic when he snatched the ball away from a Rovers defender then shot first time past Derek Gaston into the goal. At the interval Feruz replaced Ordish with Celtic going in front in the 50th minute when Filip Twardzik headed home a corner from the left flighted in by McGregor. That goal failed to settle the Celtic defence with Hughes at fault as Innes robbed him of possession then netted past Feely in the 54th minute. On the hour mark Celtic were back in front again when Atajic glanced home a free kick from Callum Bagshaw with a well timed run to the front post. “Bahrudin is a clever player,” Frail added. “We need to get him fitter, he had a long lay off after getting injured against Rangers last year, he’s still lacking a bit in his pre-season work. “He brings something to our play with his intelligence and the area of the park that he works in. “All good strikers know where the ball is going to be delivered. Greig Spence was terrific for us last year, he’s a goal scorer and we’ll be working with him when he comes back frok injury. “Strikers need to hold the ball up and lay it off but you want goalscorers in and around the box.” There was some meaty challenges going in with the age of the Celtic side dropping further with the introduction of Joe Chalmes and Jackson Irvine with Rovers equalising in the 87th minute when a free kick into the Celtic box was headed goalwards with Gemmell netting from close range. Despite that blow Celtic stood up to be counted and retained the trophy with a 5-4 win in the shoot out. “Every penalty shoot out requires nerves,” Frail added. “Even when it’s soccer 6′s. I’ve took them and missed them, it’s about nerves. “Our five penalties were excellent, the players showed some character and Robbie pulled off a great save to win the trophy.” CELTIC: Feely (Thomson 60); O’Donnell, Gallagher, Hughes (Jones 64) , Brennan; Bagshaw, F Twardzik (Chalmers 85); Ordish (Feruz 45) , Keatings (Irvine 78), McGgregor; Gormley (Atajic 51)

Its an oldie i know, but we should be allowed to play our under 19's in the lower divisions, it would help us, help young scottish talent, benefit the lower league teams with larger crowds, its a winner all round
and othe spl teams could give it a go aswell

Ok i've put a post on here twice now, quite a long one as well and its not here...describing the mis-treatment of celtic fans yesterday and also the fact that it is all on film. Young celtic fans(13-14years old) being threatened before, during and after the game by a head steward and also about the BJK jibes that the Rovers fans were making. Albion Rovers need to look into this and the guy who filmed it is considering sending it to celtic.
Have a look on the huddleboard there's a post on there as well

60 Celtic fan belonging to the Supporters Group ‘the Green Brigade’ were kicked out of Albion Rovers’ stadium during the Jock Stein Friendship Cup friendly between Celtic and Rovers, after they set off smoke grenades and flares.
According to the Sunday Mail, Police ejected the Green Brigade over fears the flares would cause a fire at Rovers’ Cliftonhill ground in Coatbridge.
A spokesman for Albion Rovers said, “A load of kids set off smoke bombs. There must have been 50 or 60 of them and they were all teenagers. They were just causing trouble but the stewards and police handled the situation effectively and got them out the ground. There were just under 700 fans at the game and these idiots didn’t spoil the afternoon for them.”
According to Celtic fans outwith the group and Rovers fans, the Green Brigade belted out Pro-i*a songs along with the usual unfurling of banners and setting off the flares.
One Celtic fan on the KDS website stated, “A special mention has to go to the Green Brigade who basically ruined the first half. Seriously, is there any need to go to a tiny wee ground, full of families and wee kids and give it the i*a songbook then start letitng off smoke canisters? When the Police waded in and started lifting them, they were being enthusiastically cheered on by everyone else in the ground.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that arrests had been made. She said, “Around 60 fans were ejected because they were involved in letting off smoke grenades.”
One fan was arrested inside the stadium while four others were arrested or given spot fines for minor offences outside the stadium
