Celtic v Ross County
League Cup
31st January 2016
Kick Off 15:00www.celticfc.net/news/9958Ronny Deila: Celts must maintain form for Staggies clashBy: Martin Dalziel on 28 Jan, 2016 16:01 ONLY continued hard work and application from his players will see Celtic succeed in their League Cup semi-final clash with Ross County at Hampden this Sunday, according to Ronny Deila. The Hoops have been in scintillating form and have found the net 15 times in their last three league outings, but the Celtic manager says his players must maintain their high standards if they hope to progress to the League Cup final. “We're really looking forward to Sunday and it’s going to be a great game,” he said. “A semi-final is where you start to get close to touching the trophy. “We have taken some steps lately and have got some rest and there’s a lot of energy in the boys but nothing comes by itself. You need to keep on working, know why you’re good and repeat it. “That’s going to be important on Sunday as well but if we keep the tempo and intensity from the last games we know we can beat anybody. “I think this is the best form of the season. We had some good games at the start but now, lately we have done it over several games so that’s very good.” Victory on Sunday over Jim McIntyre’s side will propel the Hoops into the final of the League Cup on March 13 and will give them the opportunity to retain the first trophy won under Ronny Deila last season. The Norwegian said his side have turned on the style in recent matches and believes they go into the game in good form. However, he explained that every match feels like a must-win, whether it’s for the immediate chance of silverware or just points in the league. “We want to win every game, and to play semi-finals is something we enjoy,” he said. “We did it twice last year and we had a final as well and we really want to be here in March again so we’re looking forward to it. “It’s a little bit different from last year but having said that, it’s going to be as tough. Ross County has been good this season so we need to put in a good performance.”

Tricky game this, and I am worried about it. Ross County will be right up for this, they are a big strong physical team, and they have hit a rich vein of form lately. We will need to be up for the task from the word go, because I think they will be right in our faces, and Cup ties are so unpredictable.

Hardly ever easy fur us at Hampden and canny see this game being any different, just hope GMS and Armstrong can carry on fae last week, they at least owe us some decent performances. If we play with the same tempo we have in the last couple of weeks we can win this, and an early goal would be nice.

Like I said I was worried about this game. Shameful performance by Celtic when the chips are down again. Do we need any more evidence of Deila's incompetence now ?

Wee/weak and most importantly poor. How anyone connected with this club cannot see what is wrong defies me,we do not have one player worthy of the name in our middle/forward section,Griff will score but cannot hold the ball up and has a terrible first touch, the rest are just not worthy of mentioning, again a really really poor showing.

Johansen should've seen red for that shocking tackle. Have to agree. It was a crude tackle by Johansen. It should have been a red.

Ronnie's major mistake was starting Ambrose with Boyata over Sviatchenko. I guess Ronnie does need to be hit between the eyes with a 2x4 to recall all Effe's mistakes and accidents in big games. He had no answer to counter Ross County's energy in the start of the second half. Before the 2nd goal (which was a beaut with those two headers), Ross County would have scored 30-40 seconds earlier if a shot was aimed lower. In that stretch from minute 46 through minute 63, County were the superior TEAM

Oh, and Deila (like Van Gaal) can't hide tactical mistakes with a few victories

I think that defensive problems start with Lustig. First goal the guy runs off him, same with the 3rd goal. He offers nothing going forward, and so when the ball's on the right it spends most time going back to Gordon.
We are too lightwieght, easily brushed off the ball, and yes Barca have no giants up front, but they have players that can pass the ball. Aberdeen beat that lot with 10 men last week, because they have proper wingers. We continue to play Armstong on the left, no pace no trickery. Teirney maybe more reliable defensibly, but Izzy offer much more going forward, and Lustig, well he offers fuck all.
Now people will say they Teirney & Lustig get balls into the box, but on 99% of the crosses we have one guy in the box. We missed Rogic today, because as yet he hasn't the desire to go forward coached out of him yet.
Tactics wise, at 1-1, why didn't we sit in,let them come onto us and hit them on the counter. We continue with all out attack and get punished.
Again, tactics, we persist in this short passing game, fine if it works, but looking at us, half the the team haven't seen the other half. Perhaps we need more training on simple passing and moving.
Why do we pass the ball back to Gordon, a) the guy passing it should be able to get it further up the park than him, and 2) being an outfiled player he should be more accurate.
Forrest, McGregor & GMS are children playing amonst men, unwilling to take responsibilty or the hits. Johanssen, not his finest season but at least he is willing to tackle and chase, Bitton must just fold his strip for the next game, because he very rarely breaks into a sprint/sweat.
Ronnie, never has a plan b, need a proper continental coach, Laudrup someone that can tailor our game for Europe & home

& why did Boyata concede a corner? Effe is the king of the back pass. I think he does it to get out of trouble more than Gary Caldwell used to. I have always looked for the back four to harass the attack into mistakes and giving up the ball...and then starting the counter attack

Brilliant start and went doonhill fae there, loads of issues wi the team again and like Turkishtim I think Lustig is a bit of a nightmare now, gets caught oot time efter time and is too lightweight and mare often than not hoofs the baw aimlessly up the park,a midfield that gets bullied against any team thats physical and no enough winners. unfortunatley this wont change under Deila, he has a fantasy fitba team in his heed but nae idea how tae go aboot assembling it.As soon as the chips are doon we buckle time efter time we canny rise tae the occasion, one major issue wi me today was the constant passing back tae Gordon and a lump up the park,we've nae height in midfield or up front ffs can they no see that.We went intae this game wi a bit of decent form over the las three weeks and once again resorted tae type and if ever proof was needed that its time fur change this game was it.

Same as me Capitalbhoy, player passing it back shoud be able to get it further up the park, and more accurate than Gordon. We should be playing our football in the final 1/3 not our half, yet our lack of height means we should be concentrating on the second ball, but our midfiled are to far off the pace to do that.

Only watched a recording of the first half, listened to Nevin prior, stating that there only needed to be contact in the box for it to be a penalty, what rubbish, it has to be a deliberate attempt to cheat. I saw no evidence of that with Effe, for me it was accidental contact but the corruption and idiocy of our Refs win the day again. We were never going to win this one either. I could not believe when I saw the line up, Boyatta on the left of Effe, that was enough for me that he was even in the side. Two central defenders signed and we start with the old guard and mixed them up at that. RD is a joke and so are most of his players, long past his time to go. My my my R Deila, Why why why R Deila, Go before PL shows you the door, Go now R Deila I just can't take any more. I have had it with this lot.

Had it happened at our end we would hvae been looking for a penalty. Simo was injured and to be fair Efe had played ok in the last few games. As I said above Lustig let the guy run off him for that incident, and the 3rd goal. We all blame the defence, but we don't look at the chances we miss. Had we'd been clinical we could have been 3-4 up before St J got into our half. We are too predictable, no running at the defence from midfield until Broonie came on. Bitton scores incredible goals from midfield, yet did he have a shot today. We have no effective natural wingers, so out full backs have to do the job, which leaves us short at the back, Izzy, much aligned, is actually the only player, who can stand in front of a player and beat him, in fact, we would be better playing him on the left in front of Teirney

This does not hide the fact that RD has this side again losing from a position of being in front. I have said before that buying two CD will not change this so called system. No plan B, ffs this guy doesn't even have a plan A. The two headers for example that Effe sclaffed at might just have been put away if we had a decent big striker in there with Griff playing off him. Still won't help the midfield though, they are to a man, poor to average, Does anyone hold out hope for Europe when fans are worried about the Ross Co's of the world.

You are still looking inmo at the wrong area,we have NO fcuking defence BECAUSE we have fcuk all in front of them,we have never had anything in the middle or forward,no athletes with strength/pace/control/technical ability yet we fcuking witter on about Lustig this Effe/Boyata that, don,t you ever understand why ffs,our defence is pulled all over the ship for the fcuking simple reason that they have nada protection, not only are 3/4s of our team useless they have fcuk all bottle,I said after the couple of dancing sessions we had that some of our fans were getting excited but the first time there was a bit of adversity they would revert to type, well to-day they did it again!,we folded big time, same more or less group of players that collapsed throughout 2 horrible seasons in the Europa doesn,t anyone fcuking get it,they are roll overs as is the manager and his staff. If I hear anyone saying again that at least Johanson was trying I will shoot myself,oh yeh! with a fcuking cowards tackle at the end.Let me tell you this crowd of shitbags wouldn,t last 5mins down Ibrox way they would shovel them into the Clyde, but good auld Celtic we not only sign this type of player we hold onto them like grim death,we always did and we always will, nothing ever fcuking changes up there, before I shoot myself I will shoot PL and the board along with circa 10 players.Fcuking rant over I don,t even drink now so can,t drown my sorrows,oh I forgot I am going to shoot myself.

I wish hollowgreen that I didn,t have to paint this picture but it is true for me anyway,2years now of capitulation of not being able to hold a lead and go on and get the victory, every picture paints a story and ours is a very sorry and embarrassing one, even the huns fans recognise our weaknesses and have a good a good laugh at our expense,it is beyond belief that RD/PL cannot/will not recognise where our failings lie not only fail to recognise but carry on with the same insane signing policies,average/weak players from the SPL rolled over bullied dominated yet do nothing about it,I am lost totally lost dispirited/downhearted at what is happening to our club.
